    D2 Driveshaft goes bang!!!!

    Not Happy Jan.
Just picked up some rele's from Ireland at the airport, on the way to Mt Cootha for lunch and .....
The front driveshaft **** itself on Friday, the joint under the aircon drain went kaboom. Could have been far worse, no other damage as we were travelling pretty slow and able to pull up straight away.
Thanks to Dranged who took my technical call on the roadside without notice.

Haven't fitted the CDL yet, so end result was this....

This is this shaft and the joints...

The yoke on the front end is pretty ugly too

    So.....

Anyone got a spare lying around?

Anyone know anyone in Brissy that can rebuild these, and/or make em greasable?
Justin put me onto a mob on the Goldy, but getting it there is the issue.
I'm reluctant to get a 'new' LR one as after reading several posts, seems like they are likely to do the same thing, even after re-routing the aircon drain.
However, I need to get this thing on the road asap.

    Cheers

looks totaly stuffed .. Throw-away condition

Get another second hand driveshaft // You can buy a standard aftermarket Uni to fit .. but it won't have the location pin in the centre ... but at least it will have a grease point to service it

Was done to a 1999 Disco ... same problem as your picture .. but didn't let go // caught as Maintance

    Fen,

With the exchange rate the way it is, one of these is a feasible alternative

Bummer mate, at least you werent in a 100km zone. As for Justin...he's great for that, I have had to call the DACQ (Dranged Automobile Club QLD) on a couple of occasions with the D3 and D2 ,

Can't help you with with contacts in Brisbane, but can tell you that i had mine rebuilt with greasable uni's in Melbourne for $350.00.
Mine did'nt let go like yours though so was easy to get repaired. Yours may well be beyond repair.
Glad you all pulled up okay!!
Any comments from your Irish rellies about the pommie engineering you'd like to share??

MR were half the price of the dealer plus will recommend putting on a grease nipple so you can regrease it. Which reminds me I need to get that done.

But being at Redcliffe they are a pain to get to.

    hi fene,
this photo shows that the thing was kangaroo edward and needed replacement long ago,
not wanting to be a rat, as these things happen, but how about you speak to whoever services it as this should have been picked up long ago.
i have a spare if you want it , but it would be a temporary one, as i replaced it due to vibration - it is servisable, just worn the coating off the splines, hence the vibration, but ok for a couple of thou is greased when fitted.
there is a mob down here that rebuilds shafts, but there name escapse me at the mo.
pm me if you want to borrow my shaft
just need to check if the shafts are the same, as i just previewed this post and think there is a difference.
    Safe Travels
