The Safari can be had for under $450 is you do some bargaining - hardly worth saving $125 to get the Airflow which is also smaller in cross-section apart from any fitting difficulties.

If you hit a branch hard enough to break a Safari, you're probably going to have bent/cracked some aluminium bodywork too! As for standing out too much, you can always paint them (mine is a nice gunmetal grey just to be a bit different). Having said that, if I had've seen the Mantec design first, I might've just made my own snorkel from some pipe and saved some dollars.

As for the Olympics, well on a per $ or per capita basis, Oz trashed the poms...

If it wasn't for us "Poms", you would have nothing to put a snorkel on to . It seems you aussies are very defensive over the safari snorkels lol, is it coz its an Oz company, do we need to add this to the ashes, rugby and Olympics........

It was not to do with the colour of it, I don't like the way its all down the wing, it could be bloody pink in colour, it dont matter to me.................I only gave an opinion, thats all

And theres more to the mantec than a "Bit of pipe"

let's face it, at the end of the day, all snorkels are just a bit of pipe - and in the case of Safari/Airtecs, they're overpriced bits of plastic but a necessary evil for dust/water management. I can't see why the Mantec design can't be easily replicated with some mandrel-bent 3-inch pipe for the external part (and a Safari snorkel head which looks better than the Mantec unit) and some concertina tubing for the internal part...

I'll have to agree with you about us down here and the Safari. But in our defence I'd say its also because there is a limited choice. The other brands also are very similar but were (originally) inferior in quality. Safari aren't cheap (as Stuuu et al posted) and to that end, I've just managed to get 2 Mantec "plastic jobbies" from the UK for two 08 Defenders for less than the price of one Mantec unit in Australia

It's not just Safari that costs lots here

    Hi Simonr23
Yes that is the genuine part.Dosnt mean a dealer fitted it.I emailed all the landrover dealers to get mine. All except 1 said sorry no longer available.1 got back and said yes but we just listed it on Ebay.I got it,it was real cheap but freight brought it up to $50 cheaper than a non genuine Safari.

Well if you have access to a tube bender that will bend 3" tube then you may be able to do it. As far as the flexi tube, the mantec does not require any airbox modification, it fits to the standard intake in the inner wing with another piece of tube that has the intake scoop welded to it, Its very well designed to be honest..................oops there I go again...........I'll be quiet now........

Another potential problem with the Airtec is that the head sits fairly flush with the windscreen which may result in water flowing up the screen into the snorkel if you get a bit enthusiastic with water entries. The Safari is a better design in that the head is out from the screen.

I've heard people say that Safari also has better airflow characteristics and is better quality, but I'm not totally convinced of this as the Airtec is actually larger cross-section and the Safari doesn't mate up with the inner guard particularly well - hence the mod described in the other snorkel thread that is currently running...
Can i ask the theroy on why you would turn the snorkle head backwards
