I'm the same, only used to exercise the shuttle valve, i also do a complete fluid change and flush every 12mths, whether it needs it or not

HDC on a D3 is very usefull, works well, noisey though, the speed is variable by the cruse controle button on the steering wheel, I dont use it a lot as it holds well in the gears, but when it is brown undys time trust it it works.

Wouldn't TC or putting the brakes on hard enough to engage the ABS system exercise the shuttle valves? As both HDC and TC use the ABS system.
Ozscott- the run away auto you experienced was that in a LR or other make? As mentioned before you can lock the LR auto into a particular gear and you will not have the auto run away on you. With a manual trans do you have to have it neutral to use the HDC?

Much easier on the car too just use the HDC and need to be in gear too use the HDC, 1st low, keeps the speed to 7kph.

My experience with HDC is that it needs too be very steep for it to work properly and keep the car at a steady 7kph, if it isn't steep enough it will slow the car too much and then let go and then engage again then let go, becomes a PITA, i'd much rather control the speed with the brakes and or clutch.

Hi Crash - the HDC works with the manual in gear - in fact if you touch the clutch it disengages until your back in gear. It rarely comes into play in first low because in the manual that really creeps very slow down hill but ultra steep and loose surfaces hills see it coming on occasionally.

My 95 D1 auto in low range first is nowhere near as good downhill as my D2 manual first - but of course the flip side is that uphill the D1 is better. The D1 locked in Low First runs away. The running away feeling might no be obvious unless you have drive the manual though to compare. Im not suggesting that the auto takes off down the hill, so I probably could have used a more apt term.

    Cheers
