    Snorkel on a V8....?

Was just trawling through pages and pages of stuff on the forum, and was wondering what peoples thoughts are on fitting snorkels to a D2 V8?

I know water crossings aren't the best for V8's anyway, and I get all the reasons and needs for going "wading around" in diesels, but are there any other real advantages for fitting to a V8 other than the possibility of getting some cleaner air from being higher up?

Would the hassle and cost REALLY be worth it?

    Be gentle! Just curious....
    Any comments appreciated.

I have followed a few debates on this topic, as I am the proud owner of a D2... and also want a snorkel.

Some say that it makes NO Difference to performance, and even go as far as saying that the inlet is even more restrictive than standard.

Then there are those that say becuase the Snorkel adds to wind resistance that you'll just chew the juice even more.

Others say that if the water is high enough to hit your intake it would have stopped long ago anyway thus making the snorkel pointless.

Then a few say that the advantages of lifting the intake well above its' current position is great for preventing ingress of dust.

I say, do as I am doing, just go buy one, they're cool! And you'll be happy and that will make the car FEEL like it goes exponentially better Becuase, nobody really seems to know one way or the other.

    That's WHAT I THINK anyway!

I dont think they make a crap of difference to performance. If driving in dust then yes you get better air flowing through the air filter so less frequent air filter changes. You will probably get colder air entering the engine and this is good for performance. I believe that it does help with water crossings and if it doesnt, it certainly doesn't hurt.
And most of all they look good

I cant help but keep thinking back to the adds on tv in the 80's with julius sumner miller trying to blow a piece of paper into a bottle. remember the paper keeps coming out of the bottle because the wind hits the back of the bottle. If your engine cant suck all the air hitting the ram on the snorkel then i wonder if a similiar effect occurs?
