Well the mods are done. Took them down to 22mm and it is a great success.

Let me set the scene - Stock Td5 D2. 235/75R16. (no lift).

Machined down to 22mm and screwed back in. No rubbing on the guard.

    Things to note -
    • larger tyres may pose an issue
    • different number of turns centre to lock(2 right - 1.75left)
    • don't stress it too much on full lock as CV joints will be under more stain

Thanks to Pedro the Swift and Urban Panzer for assistance.

Have no idea why you would want to do this, the D2 has a good lock, only good for carparks IMHO.

Baz, it's an excellent cheap mod, takes a mile off the turning circle & great for the bush. Land rover sell the shorter stops but it's just as easy to trim them down yourself.

Baz may be like me and have the 23 mm stops from factory, in which case I'd agree.. not much point in taking off just 1mm.

But if you have the 28mm stops.. well then it's a no brainer..

    so there I was,,
lying under my D2 in a strange car park surrounded by cars and people, removing my steering stops,,

only to find that I ALREADY HAD the short ones,,,

I still think it turns like a supertanker,,

    maybe another couple of mm's

Agree - As I said earlier, I shaved 8 of mine, now 20mm. The Disco 2 would nearly have the worst turning circle available on a modern pasenger vehicle.

But my question is: "Can I do this if I have the 18" wheels"?
