In the past i have paid $500 for a burnt wreck and $2500 for a rolled, polled V8 with low KM.....

It depends on who wants it on the day and where it is located.....

Things are not always as they seem. That P38 was passed in a week ago for $6,000 and I see it has been listed again for next week.

It wasn't referred as some cars on the day were & the winning bidder came up & paid his deposit to the guy in front of the auctioneer. However, I must have been mistaken because you are right about it being re-listed:
ManheimFowles - Vehicle Details - Salvage
Anyway, who in their right mind would buy a P38 .

Some of the winning bidders were funny though. One guy won & just walked off without giving his bid card number. The auctioneer didn't know what to do .
Another written off car (Holden Suburban) was being auctioned & they made a song & dance about it having a 6.5 turbo diesel donk. It started going for big dollars & was referred to in the end (about $6k IIRC). When the photos flashed up during bidding, the motor had been removed from the car anyway. I guess it may have been supplied separately but it was funny to see an empty engine bay after the talking up of the engine itself.

I was lucky enough to get the day off and get to Melbourne today to have a look at the wreck auction.
A 98 TDI which was a repairable write off - was a stolen recovered and did not look too bad at all went for $2000, and a 04 MY 2003 TD5 which again was a repairable write off - roof was smashed in at the front with windscreen gone went for $8300.
As a side note a KTM 250 - do not know what year but probably no more than 5years old and looked like a goer without any work went for $5600.

There's an 01 v8 on ebay at the moment with front end damage - they're asking $3500 for it on a buy-it-now.
