Now I am thinking about my mileage as I am lucky to see 650k's for 75 ltrs around town. Noted that I am chipped and intercooled and the missus is the main driver.... but still...

Might go clean the MAF sensor.

Get the keys back, and your fuel consumption will improve heaps.

excuse my inexperience but how is cleaning performed on the maf,mechanic once told me never to clean it or else it will damage it..(although he is a very ex mechanic).

Wet season so haven't gone out of town but the first 295km with the intercooler in helping the ECU chip came in at 10.8/100.

owoodland have you checked the air filter? when mine gets too dusty my consumption gets noticeably worse. Airflow meter on nanocom doesn't show an impedance but if you take the filter out, tap it on the ground and lots of dust falls out that might be the problem. Worth checking before buying anything expensive! I am changing mine today because I had noticed consumption suddenly worse than usual, not errors on anything else...

Mine gets 11 ish around town,& easily 9 to 10's on a run.Best i ever had was 8.8 coming back from a cape trip,held up for hours behind a group of grey nomads in pretenders towing vans.
When the MAF played up on mine the fuel economy was still good but the engine would surge on full throttle at over 3500rpm,which also caused the auto to change up & down rapidly at high revs

Your mechanic is wrong, they can be cleaned, just be gentle if touching the element, only use a soft brush, I wouldn't but some on here have.

Remove it, spray it with contact cleaner, let it dry, put back on.

If you can, get a flow test done on the MAF, clean it if the rate is low, then test it again, this will tell you if it's knackered or not.

If your paying more than $60 for a diognostic check, your being ripped off.
