Thread: D2 TD5 fuel economy - bad?

What year model is yours Owen? I have a bog standard '02 auto, and it is getting similar mileage to what you are reporting. It has been dealer serviced from new, and they tell me it is normal, despite me asking them to check every time, as friends x2 with '01 models and friend with an '03 get much better economy than I do. Might be time to get it chipped. Tombie, are you lurking?

Ok, I have a bog stock TD5 Auto with a snorkle and a ARB bull bar and a pair of lightforce on the front. Apart from that no other modifications.

On a mixed driving week (most weeks) I get between 800-900km between fill ups (75-80L).

Best I have seen was just over 1000km on a trip out west.

One trick I have worked out with mine is if you brim the tank, it adds about 120km to my range as the filler neck takes about 10L.

I did get 3200km out of a tank once but 2500km of that was on the back of a tow truck LOL

Well, here are my figures since I have had the car.

It is totally stock, no egr mod, standard tyres, no snorkel, no chip, no roof rack - geez I am boring....

I should add, that most of my driving is in the city.

Sounds about average for most of us.
Might try and clean the MAF and see what happens.
I never fill to the top as I use a high flow bowser and I dont trust the auto shut off so my figures are short of a full tank.

Wow, mines a 2003 Auto and I've never achieved that. Even before slightly larger tyres and roof rack the most we would get out of a tank "commuting" was 670km and our commuting is not Brisbane commuting. Unfortunately we've never done a long highway trip without the larger tyres and roof rack

780K is the most I've gotten in my TD5, 84lts used, which is 10.7, that had a bit of low range work as well, that's as close as i've gotten to 800k.

My figures are about the same as yours Baz. I get around 11L/100km around town and around 10 on the highway. Never really done a long trip not loaded up with larger tyres though.

Mines a manual td5.

After 10 months I have averaged low 10's to high 12's depending on what, where and how I have driven

Will fill up either tomorrrow or Fri for first time since Intercooler was added to the ECU upgrade.
