3 Amigos deported...finally!!
Finally got around to sorting out the reason for the 3 Amigos...turned out to be the ABS Modulator, it was kaput! Not a great look for a '02 D2 that had only done 28,000kms!
I have to thank all of those that have posted such comprehensive info about the Amigos as I was well informed of likely causes when speaking to my local Land Rover mechanic. He's an independent, and suggested installing a fully reco'd Wabco rather than brand new. Turned out to be a cost effective and more than effective recommendation. All up including GST and labour approx $1300. About half the cost of a brand new unit. No more lights and ABS works again!
What I have now noticed is how spongy the brakes feel, I've read plenty of posts about this and it seems that's just how they are
The felt like they were made out of wood before...I did check with the mechanic as to his opinion and he claims that each vehicle is/can be different, and that they did a full flush and bleed of the ABS system whilst hooked up to their diagnostic computer (he uses Autologic for all the system diagnostics and I assume this is what he used when testing the ABS system?).
I've had to adapt my driving style somewhat to compesate for the extra pedal travel, the bite is better than before but it takes longer to feel like she's pulling up, although pumping the pedal once after inital engagement does improve performance.
What I am keen to know is would braided lines help improve pedal engagement? I.e. the inital bite kicks in earlier giving the primary driver (wifey) more confidence? Or would installing a set of 2a front calipers work better and help improve pedal height as I understand they are a different spec? Not sure what the differences are but keen to get opinions from those far more in th eknow in this forum that I.
Cheers Adam.

The Braided lines will give a much improved feel on their own!

Thanks Tombie2...Appreciate your feedback, good to know my thinking is on the right track.
Right, time to head off and buy some braided hoses and new calipers!
