    Question Turbo Hoses and ABS Modulator

    Hi all,

    I am new to the Discovery world having just purchased a 02/MY003 Auto Diesel any tips on what to look out for? I have the three amigo's problem and a crack in the top of the intake hose for the intercooler intake it goes under the clamp. I need to replace it, anyone have any advice on what type of hose to get, where from and at reasonable prices? Same question for the ABS modulator I have read that to get rid of the three amigos this unit needs replacing. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    The 3 Amigos should first be attacked with a simple fault code clear/diagnosis from an auto electrician with Nanocom or Rovercom or similar and will set you back around $50. This will in all probabability be a temproary fix but the diagnosis will tell you where the trouble lies.

    As an example, I my case I have had the Amigos appear twice in 18 months first time was cured by bleeding the brakes, second time was a low voltage signals from each of the wheel speed sensors, possibly due to dirty contacts or wheel speed sensors, fault codes cleared and they havnt returned yet (3 months later). So dont go worrying about replacing the $3000 ABS Modulator just yet!

    Pedro_The_Swift and simonl8353 have offered you the best advice and certainly know what they're on about. when I suffered the dreaded 3 Amigos recently I was rather appreciative of their council via their previous postings.

    My local LR mechanic (not a dealer) had the necessary diagnostics and the fault code was traced to the Modulator (not what I wanted to hear, but having done a hard brake test on a metal road where I skidded to a stop, i.e. ABS failed to work, I suspected I was in for the worst ) The slight silver lining was that he got me a fully reconditioned Modulator for around a third the price of a brand new one. It's had all the typical weak points in the modulator (shuttle vale and top bolts) replaced and upgraded. He says he's not had one come back broken in the past 5 years...sounded good to me.

    So definately get it checked out first.
