    Td5 radiator bleed vavle broken

Went for a drive yesterday to Gosford to get some lunch so we thought we would make a picnic of it. Whilst there, brother popped the hood to see the motor and noticed a water leak. Had a look and found that it was coming from the radiator bleed vavle. Thought it needed a little tightening, but I was wrong. The slightest turn made the top pop off. The threaded part is still in the hose.

Anyway, NRMA premium only cost $66 for a tow and my brother went with him. My wife, son and I hopped on a train at Gosford and enjoyed the trip home.

    That's my weekend story.

    Cheers

That's why you should always carry a spare top rad hose, or at least the bleed screw.

Get the Engine Saver replacement bleed screw, it's stronger, OR BUY THE WHOLE KIT, it's worth it for peace of mind.

    Cheers Baz.

I just ordered a brass bleed screw from Les Richmond In Thomastown yesterday, along with brass diff filler plugs.

Yeah would definitely reccommend the engine saver kit!! I cracked a radiator hoses yesterday and the alarm went off with plenty of fluid still in the system. Saved the engine from overheating and the head from warping. Easy and cheap insurance for you engine!

Why didnt you just wrape some race tape around it and drive it home ?

Uh...yeah. That's what I did. My point was that without the alarm I wouldn't have known about the hose until it was too late. This way I didn't cook my head and I save myself thousands...
