Question D2 headlight upgrade to D2a

as the title suggests, can anyone tell me if the D2a headlights and grill will fit into a D2 without modifying the radiator support panel etc

I think the D2a headights really look nicer than the stock D2 ones and would be a simple upgrade

    anyone done this mod

I've looked into this as well, the grill is easy to change over but the headlights cradles need modification as the D2a lights are bulkier. It requires some TIG welding to modify it so they fit properly.

Check out this website TD5Alive! Discovery Td5 Headlights Facelift Conversion - Performance Diesel Tuning for most modern Cars and Vans.

They publish a CD with instructions on what to do.

I would love to do this - I have the CD, there is some work but it is really straight forward. I just can't find Lights for a reasonable price.

Keep your eyes open on Fleabay, especially the U.S. site. A couple of months ago they were going for US$50 and their was about 5-10 pairs available but looks like it's dried up and their now US$400 (OUCH) each. Keep looking your bound to get lucky sometime....

    Problem with these are
1 - they are left hand drive if they are from the US (different low beam mirror) and very illegal here for good reason.
2 - there were hundreds of early D2a Lights that were replaced under warranty especially in the US because they leak, a lot the these ended up on Ebay - twice and even more. The US forums have heaps of horror stories of people wanting to do this, paying for units sight unseen and then having to pay for new ones - and putting the duds back on ebay.

I'll have a set from a repretable wrecker or a new supplier, but so far...

Finished mine after I got hold of the single loom plugs and also did the relay to switch the normal driving lights on when on high beams.

It's NOT that difficult, just some cutting and 2 new holes to drill. From start to finish took me 3 hours.

Also found this on the American web-site:
