the defender section is not split up and seems to work ok the PUMA and 200tdi are very different engines...
Its easy - just buy the model disco you dont have and away we go. Back together as 1 big happy family. cheers JP

Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......
PUMA's are not that old and there not quite the volume of them out there as there are D2's now. As far as I'm aware, apart from the new interior, and 6sp box the drive lines are pretty similar.
Asking what wheels will fit on a D1 will not be the same answer as a D2. Same as suspension lifts. Gets quite irritating actually when your reading a thread thinking "goody I can fit big wheels on my car easily with these new mods" only to find out a D2 was being referenced the whole time.
I'm really for having dedicated sections for D1 and D2, but then I was really for having a dedicated faq's page under each make as well but that didn't happen.
Edit* Look at the number of threads in each vehicle section. Discovery has the most by far and is kept combined. Even all the series threads added up don't equal the number of threads in the disco section. Theres also 80% extra posts in the disco section than the defender section.
Thats because the discovery section was establishes long before the defender section was actually it was around 8months before...
Imagine how big the defender section would be if the isuzu's were in it
and i think you will find there are a lot of things different between the 200tdi and the puma, engine, gear box, interior, brakes, diffs, oils, filters..you also can't suspension lift a puma like a TDI I can carry on if you like.....but if it upsets you that much have another forum![]()

Oh oh lets carry on.
Looking at thread counts the defender section would still be smaller if you added in the Isuzu section. I suppose if you throw in the series sections you'll move ahead.
Dont forget the differences between the Td5 engines as well though. That makes the defender section users extra impressive.
Personally I'm fine with the way this section is now. I've learnt most of the differences between the D1 and D2 and what applies to both vehicles and can tell pretty quick what's of use to me and what isn't.
Any one new on the other hand could quite easily be led to believe that they are pretty much the same, and only after hours of reading will they finally click that the two are in fact very different.
I can't help but read that in a very sarcastic manor....
The disco section has a lot of posts I can't really see what that has to do with it!
are there more disco's on the road or is it that disco owners waffle about more crap?
you say you really don't mind, yet you say you get iritated by it!
if you want to base it on wheel stud patterns then maybe we should push the D2 owners in with the p38 owners...and you can all sit in there and talk about your electrical gremlins
I came in and said that it seems to be ok in the defender section (as I at first asked for only a section for the puma to discuss teething problems etc etc) but we got a defender section that seems to work ok, and you jump on me giving me post statisics and god knows what...
you know we do things like tell people what car we are talking about by putting it in the title
But hey maybe that is because we ARE special and impressive you know having the TD5 and all.......
you can throw as many models as you like in the defender section bring on the series vehilces I say! after all they are the grandad of the real 4wd on this forum
Now where did I put that picnic......
Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......
if you pair have finished??

Was meant to be about 90% sarcastic. Not trying to start a **** fight.
Your first post seemed to insinuate that the defender section was similar and no ones complained and we're all a bunch of babies (we drive discoveries for a reason though...). All I was trying to do was highlight what I thought the differences were and why I thought it justified separate sections compared to the defender sections.
The thread counts are meant to show that there is more waffle to sort through for the two different models in the disco section compared to the defender section. But I would also assume there are more disco drivers on the road. Seems like now there a lot popping up in enthusiasts hands too which is good to see.
Being discovery owners we expect particular things to just happen too. Putting names in titles seems like a good idea but you just expect it to happen with a vehicle like the discovery. The defender though is a different kettle of fish, you know you have to change gear yourself. The disco can do that all by itself(I would have listed power windows, working air conditioning etc but the new defender changed all that).
I now realise I contradicted myself with some comments. The first example was talking from experience when I was first searching for options on upgrading 33"s. It seemed there were two different schools of thought, one that a body lift and complete guard chop were required and one for just a suspension lift and guard trim (as opposed to major hack and new arches). Took me a while to see they were talking about two different vehicles.
Now its just an inconvenience sifting through the different posts but I do really believe it would help new users no end by separating the two.
Meow....
Oh hang on, that should be in the Puma section![]()
