Grover, what is the open length on the shocks or which shocks is that running?
do we know what the rates and free heights are for these springs??
i have an evil plan if they arnt too stiff:angel:
cheers phil
I tried to sus this from Shane, but he works on winds, lengths and wire diameter rather than rates. From what I've seen they are relatively soft compared to what I run, and I think everything is probably relatively stiff compared to what you run. :lol2:
As a complete guess, I'd be thinking its something around 180F and 240R
ive got 240lb's in the ute f&r....rides like a toyota and gives me a sore neck:mad:
what are the details shane gave you? i can work out from the coil dia, wire dia and number of active coils what the rates are.
180lb at thoes heights should see the coil free height over 500mm:eek:
cheers phil
Just trolling our emails I found this.
The SS rates are not sure but something around 230lb/inF and 300-320lb/inR
Front Hub to Guard is 590mm
Rear Hub to Guard is 640mm with free lengths at 530mm
new Rear Hub to Guard is 600mm so I assume the free length is 490mm
Based on my data with Lovells and Bilstein I run
570mm hub to guard at the front with 230lb/in @ 430mmFL and 655mm shocks which give a captive but loose fit for the springs.
595mm hub to guard at the rear at 300-340lb/in @ 470mmFL and 655mm shocks which give a captive but loose fit for the springs.
These measurements were before I loaded it full of crap which lowered it somewhat.
I'm guessing that 655mm shocks GU/GQ rear lengths will work well with the SS springs then, or if you are chasing absolute travel then you could probably run the shocks out to about 675mm open and remain captive, but the Watts linkage would need modding for clearance such as the RTE cranked set and the front ACE sway links would need to be made 1" longer.
It sounds like the SS flexi springs are very similar to what I have. That doesn't surprise me in that Shane I chatted heaps when he was developing them. I really thought that they were a lot softer than that when seeing them in the bush. They seem to be 20mm longer in the free lengths than Lovells though, and significantly better priced!!!
hmmm, I hope that all made sense. :lol2:
