    Rear Diff leak.

    Hi all,

I had my diff oils changed last fri and noticed a pool of oil under the rear today.
I imediately suspected the plugs but upon further investigation found it to be coming from where the drive shaft enters.

Is this a big drama and how hard is it to fix?

    Is the breather blocked?
    Has it been overfilled?

Yeah Graeme, I had that problem on my old Rangie. Overfilled the rear diff; it covered the back of the car with oil on the trip home....LOL If its coming out where the driveshaft goes in its probably the diff pinion seal. Not a big job, but can be a PITA if your drive flange has welded itself to the diff pinion. Had that problem on the D1, luckily my LR man was doing the job. Lots of swearing and quite a bit of heat was involved to get the bugger off apparently!
