I soooooooooooo live in the wrong country!!!!!!!!! :(
The river is the Pentecoste and its not the deepest we encountered but would be the most well known of the Kimberley rivers crossings,The range in the background is the back drop from ther movie AUSTRALIA.

Great river and great location. I visited the area in 2002 and the first time i crossed it the water went half-way up the tyres, when i crossed it again five days later i had water lapping onto the windscreen :(
I was certainly happy that i had put in a full set of breathers before the trip :)
Bit of history for you in regard to your photo.......looking to the left through your windscreen towards the other side of the river, there is a popular camping place for the locals who come out there to fish for barra (and avoid the crocs). In the late '80's unfortunately there were two guys and a lady from Kununurra camping there. Don't know if you have ever heard about the "Kimberley Killer", a German tourist named Joseph Schwabb......he caused quite a furore by going on a killing spree from Victoria River in the Territory to the Pentacost River.....well he caught and killed the campers there, shot them and burnt their vehicle like he did to all his victims. Not very pleasant at all, but it adds some depth to your photo.....albeit tragic.
He met his demise a little later when he was trapped by TRG near Fitzroy Crossing, spotted from the air by a heli-musterer.
Thanks Midal,I remember that cause we were camped not far from there the year after it happened, I think 89, you can come thru from Wyndam past the prison tree and come out along where you are talking about. Funnily enough when we went thru this year the was a holden commodore at the track junction.
Never caught any bloody Barra there, but boy did we see some croc's and there slides in the mud banks on the river. There were alot of cattle abit further up stream and the croc's were stalking them,we camped at home valley and you could see them just cruising up towards them, but never seen them get 1.
An Amazing part of this great country that's for sure..

My 2000 td5 has had a long life and seen most of Aus ,i have had blood (lots of) sweat and tears gone into mine as i strive to do all my own work on it which has resulted in great rewards and not so great ,well what they say the only way to learn about your disco is do it yourself:D:p
i have done quite a few mods and still have a long list to go its funny that you get a whole bunch done and all of a sudden there is a whole lot more to go ;)
a few more
Here's mine.
It's an 03 Discovery S Auto TD5 7 seat with ACE.
It doesn't see much off road, It's mainly our family wagon and my tow vehicle for the race car. I've had it for nearly 3 years now and the only mods are a VNT turbo install an EGT gauge and deleted the EGR.
