well it finally didnt turn at all and the beast had to be towed to atv in strathfeild..i used graphite powder, wiggly and giggly, and a few swear words till i bit the bullet and gave it to the experts..in a few hours ill get a call to pick her up...i let you all know what was done..
Old friend of mine is a locksmith. He says that you should NEVER use a wet lubricant (oil, wd40, rp7 etc) on a lock. ALWAYS use graphite!!!!
This is especially true if you ever take your car offroad as the dust will stick like s##t to a blanket to all the bits in the lock and leave you with an inoperable lock eventually. All you need to do is sprinkle a little on the key and slide it in a few times. If you can push the cover over and puff some in directly all the better.
check this out....previously posted...it is not uncommon.

Most hardwares will have it, try bunnings, or even an automotive place like supercrap
Hi,
My D2 gradually faded, each month that went by was more difficult to engage the key to unlock the barrel and turn....
Kev my mate, his was also the same....
I bought my series II second hand but I assumed they liked hanging 20kg's worth of keys off their TD5 key ring which is never a good thing for the longevity of an ignition barrel.
I shopped second hand at wreckers, but decided to by brand new genuine... Don't want to be on Gibbs Rd heading to Darby when you ignition fails.
Take Care
Happy hunting.
Craig
Got me some graphite powder earlier in the week, applied it Weds night, and hey presto...the key fits the lock again like they were made for each other(!) and works like new. Beautiful!
Cheers for the heads up on this "magic" powder fellas!! :D:D

According to my LR mech the graphite powder will only postpone the inevitable. One day it WILL stick and never move again. I just had mine replaced with a D1 barrel. The mechanism was changed to match my key and the D2 electronic bits added. All up cost about $250.
