Rocking the steering wheel while manipulating the key may solve the problem.

On a couple of D1/D2 repairs we've done, the sliding bolt of the steering lock wears with a lip, and it becomes difficult to release. A little WD40 down the key way solved it.

    Good luck!

I have just had mine replaced after 6 months of playing up. I tried everything but in the end it just wouldn't let me start. had it replaced by ritters who luckly was just around the corner a were able to come and get the car.

i was also told not to have too many keys on your keyring because of the extra downward wejght.

I had mine rebuilt at a locksmith for $66. It was sticking every time and most of the time it was a nervous gamble to see if I could start the car when I was out and about .. works better than new now

When this happened to mine I took the blade off the key fob. It just pulls off. I then was able to turn the blade with more force using a pair of pliers. This got me going again.

I then took the ignition barrel off turned it upside down, tapped it a bit and sprayed some contact cleaner through it. It's working great now.

what about giving a little squirt with WD40 to give it a little lube once in a while?

or is there a better lube for this do you think?

I got some graphite powder off ebay and squirted it into my ignition. I read that as this is dry it does not attract dirt. Locksmiths sell this for lubing locks.

Not sure how this would work if you had used wd40 previously.

I had problems early on with mine...locksmith took out one wafer that was causing problems (its a wafer not tumbler lock) and recommended graphite powder and from then on never had a problem (in about 100,000k after the problem was fixed). He said if everyone use that stuff he would go out of business.

I had mine replaced by my local LR dealer after a couple of weeks when the engine wouldn't shut off even after I took the key out. Didn't think to take it to a lock smith but that said once it was replaced didn't have another issue. cheers JP

Mine does it sometimes but only in a sequence.

After being locked with the remote and a time lapse of about 20 to 30 minutes the alarm beeps once.(posible miss lock)
It never beeps when locked and signaling a miss lock.
If I try open the D2 before the elapsed time, the ignition sometimes does not want to turn. Fiddling with it for about five minutes usually does the trick. It always seems to be the same time span before the ignition opens. The ignition barrle was repaired recently but the problem surfaced again.
btw. The ignition repair was forced due to it not returning to run after starting. Drove 40Km with starter motor engadged (no noises was heard).
Costs was a 2nd hand starter, burnt wires and the repaired ingnition.
Ignition lock happened today going home from work.
