    v8 or td5?

I'm looking to buy a discovery and plan to buy a v8 but am wondering what td5s (particularly with upgraded ecu software) are like to drive. Fuel economy doesn't matter as it won't do much mileage, does anyone have any thoughts on which would be nicer to drive?

If I was buying again I'd go for the TD5.
The ONLY reason I went for the V8 at the time, was because the TD's were so much more expensive, but now they've dropped quite considerably it's a far better deal.

Thats not saying I have any regrets about buying my V8, I LOVE it, and don't plan on getting rid any time soon, I can tell yer!!

As far as "nicer to drive", I doubt there'd be much in it.

    Cheers,

    This must be a troll.
I can see this thread degenerating into a slanging match including personal insults and aspertions on manhood, while the original poster looks on gleefully.

Go on buy a TD5 if your ego can stand being outdragged by everything including a Proton Whatchamacallit.

    This concept has been flogged!

It always come down to personal choice and need. I would go the TD5, but your not doing long distance and all that so really wouldn't matter. Depends if your a diesel fan or V8 fan.

Just think about the needs of the car and then which one would suit it best....but i still rather the TD5

V8 for sure - preferably 4.6 - no TD rattler ever sounds like that will.

No quetion that this is probably the most devisive question on the forum..

But having owed a V8 DII for 4 years and now having a Td5 DIIa (chipped, silicone hoses and EGR removed) I don't regret the choice at all.

If i was buying again - I'd buy TD5...... but only if i had budgeted for the mods too, and it had a perfect service history.

Comparing standard V8 to standard TD5....... except for fuel range - I'd go V8.

You really need to drive both - they are actually quite different vehicles to drive.
