			Larger tyres affect towing?

How much affect does fitting 265/75R16 to a TD5 auto have?
Is it god or bad for acceleration and fuel economy?

					Bigger/ wider tyres affect everything.
More wear and tear on steering and brake components, more friction and weight and hence more fuel.
Fit what is recommended or opt for as small as possible a foot print as possible.
Fit correct tyres for application, that is road tyres for the road and off road for off road or a ATR that is meant for all applications.
Michelin and coopers are my current favourites and had great experinces with them.
good luck, keep an eye on pressure too, makes a big difference.

					I have a set of 265 x 75 x 16 Mickey Thompson MTZ's on my auto TD5.
With these tyres I estimate I have lost about 50km per tank.
However they are better on & off the road than both the 16" & 18" OEM tyres.
They are more comfortable & steering response is better.
I used to have a set of 18's with original tyres & a set of 16's with Simex's for off road - this was a PIA & I found I was going off road less i.e. day trips.
My TD5 is chipped with a blanked off EGR so the performance effect is minimal in fact it out accelerates my son's standard D2a significantly.
The effect with the auto is that on the highway it revs lower but with no real loss of performance around town.
Hope this helps.
Regards
Chuck

If you are a 'tourer' and dont do many tough trips then I would go for 245/75/r16s. They wont affect gearing that much and you will still be able to tow fine. 265s will affect your power and consumption...especially when towing.
