The gear selector has keyed positions in those sectors .... You have to press a button while selecting those positions .... The rod of the button is not going deep enough to get through those keyways ....

    EITHER ...
Check that the selector is not loose at the console
Dis-asemble the gear selector and check the push rod selector & the keyway

OR .... Disconnect the cable from the gearbox and see if the gear selector is still jamming .... This will also give you the opportunity to manually select the gears of the gearbox ....

.... Or something has come adrift at the gearbox where the cable makes connection to the gear lever

If you get under the car .... REMEMBER TO CHOCK THE WHEELS as it is not in park

Remove the gear lever surround & check for coins as they often slide under a cause problems like this.
Also, does the detent button feel OK (the one that normally stops you moving the lever between certain gears) ?

Can select 1, 2, 3, and Neutral. Won't go forward of Neutral to Reverse or Park

Thanks for that. Detent button doesn't feel like its fully activating. Can't get knob off to get a good view underneath cover.
