    Differential Breather Kit

    Hi all
I am considering purchasing a Diff breather kit that is advertised on ebay for $98.00. It says it fits 90% of 4X4's . Has anyone bought one? Is the TD2 one of the 90%?

If this is the kit you are talking about then they seem pretty good and you should have no trouble fitting them.
Diff or Gearbox Breather Kit. 4WD-RV-4x4-Snorkel.Billet - eBay 4x4 Accessories, Exterior, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 10-Jul-09 08:50:35 AEST)
The diff breathers do run into the engine bay but are made from pretty crappy LR plastic which easy splits or cracks with age. You could go and buy some hose and cheap plastic fuel filters for a cheap fix, but those ebay items look trick, if you can spare the cash why not.

Your vehicle already has diff breathers front & rear. They are however a little short and could be extended. The rear diff breather is located behind the LHR tail light on my D2a and from memory, the D2 is also there but shorter.

Under the bonnet and against the firewall you will find a front diff breather, a gearbox breather and a third which I think is the transfer case breather. All I did was buy some vacuum hose (you can buy cheaper hose but take a sample of the oem hose when sourcing) and add it onto the existing breather pipe so that the ends are now at bonnet level.

Job done and cost much less than the advertised kits which you don't need anyway.

    Cheers,

    Franz

On my Zook Ive just used Green garden hose. Don't understand why people think you need to fit a filter. Its not like large volumes of air flow through them.
You still need to change/check wheel bearing and diff oil after deep water crossings, as water may find other ways in. eg wheel bearing seals.

    Differential Breather Kit

    Guys,
i also saw the ebay ones a couple of years ago and made my brothers county and my disco2 a set of 4 each.
The blue filters are just pnuematic silencers that can be bought from Farnells Electronic and Industrial Supplies. From memory, they were about $7 each.
They do overnight delivery for about $10. they also have the push on connectors and hose.
    good luck.

Had a quick look at Farnell, but couldnt find the right ones, however RS-Online does have them. Very similar company to Farnell, overnight bags etc.

    RS Mobile

    $4.75 each, Ex GST.
