mine is the 3.5 so probably a bit different to yours but......

I have the extractors leading to a Y piece which then connects to one single pipe all the way back to one small muffler at the back where a resonator would normally go.
I'm not really sure if the back box is a muffler or resonator but it sounds OK with a bit of right foot and there is no drone on the freeway. Well none that I can make out above the noise of the tyres

I think legaly you have to leave the cat as is but you can always fit a different one or a "modified", (read, empty) cat if you are doing it yourself.

IMO extractors are they worth it? dunno mate if your buying them new probably not I only have them fitted because they where used & VERY cheap. I cant really tell the difference.
I think the RRC & D1 manifolds where a bit restrictive but I beleive they are much better in the D2, I'm sure someone will confirm or deny that.

AFAIK the Same design/ shape manifolds are used from early EFI RRC through to D2. P38a however have tubular ones, very nice shape too
The D2 is actually slightly worse as the engine pipe immedately necks down from 2 to 1 as it leaves the manifold flange, and then goes straight into the CAT.

The best flow factory engine pipes (Not counting P38a)I have seen were in the Classic RRC 3.9 from 1991 to 1995. They were a fair bit bigger than the Disco 3.9 ones and coupled with an overall bigger diameter pipe all the way through the exhaust sounded good in standard trim. Maybe they were for the 4.2 yank market originally??

    Hi Longstroke,
I know it has been a while but do you still have the vid?
The resonator is hanging down on my truck at the moment due to a cracked weld at the front, so I might as well leave it off if it is going to sound better.
I am amazed there is no hanger on the rear of this resonator, or has mine just fallen off.

Mine has Magnaflow CATS and the rear box removed and replaced with some straight pipe. Original LR center box. Sounds not too bad. But then I'm always IN the Disco and so don't get to hear it from outside much, other than when it's ticking over. Easy on the ears in the cab too.

    Thanks Kieren,
I think I will just break off the rear muffler, and if I'm happy with the noise it makes, I'll put a straight pipe in its place.
    Cheers,

Hi all, for what it's worth I replaced the center muffler with Lukey straight through muffler and got a deper note, sounds a little louder. Can't say I'm impressed as I was hoping to get more of a crisper bark when under throttle, I paid just under $200 supplied and fitted. Can't really justify (to the missus) spending any more. It's an improvement but not much

I've got a Redback muffler and resonator with Magnaflow cats and Genie extractors. Sounds good. Can't really hear it inside but outside it sounds better.
