The answer to this question has been posted several times before and applies to all cars with threaded couplings:

Undo it by turning the nut in the same direction that the fan normally rotates. Think about it and you'll see why.

    Then you will remember.

so, tried to udo it and no luck, went to local mechanic and he got on teh front rad support with a big thumposcope and super big open end ring spanner and wacked it a bunch of times and said "that ain't gunna move" interestingly he has a rangey 4.6 that just threw a leg and has just pulled the motor out and said when i rang him up prior to going round, "yeah bring it round, just took the fan off my rangie i will get it off for you in a few minutes"

so, take it to the stealers and get them to remove the fan using the special tools ?

Never really understood the "wack it" method, because if it is very tight, it will just spin the pulley under the belt...........well mine did.

I just hooked up 3 bits of ali flat bar, bolted them into a Y shape, drilled 2 holes in the ends of the Y that line up with the pulley bolts, and used that to hold it whilst un doing with a viscous fan spanner, was f'ing tight, but it came un done in the end.

Whacking it relies on the inertia of the pump, pulley drag, etc, to allow the nut to come loose. It works.
