Hi alien well its started to rattle again after only 20 klms...could it have come loose....was a second hand part..and when we tightened it couldnt determine..to what poundage it was...with the viscous fan..im goin to purchase my own spanner..can you remember the size..was it 31mm?
The freind that lent me spanner last time is away for a few weeks.
Can you please just go over..how you re tightened the balancer again.
When i bought the second hand unit..i just fitted it on the shaft and then we tightened it up with socket and tension bar..so not aware how tight it was only than bloody tight...should i have checked anything else..
Regards
Rob
Ps cant seem to locate your mobile number..can you resend thanks
The 12 inch crescent just seem a bit small...and the 15 inch is to big..was even thinking of grinding the crescent out a little??
Hi alien
can you send me apic of the tool you made from angle iron to tighten harmonic balancer up
thanks Rob
have sent you an email re..balncer making a noise again..not sure yet if it needs retightening or if the 2nd hand unit i bought is a dud
Thanks rob
Hey Rob,
If the balancer comes loose i've found the motor runs but the belt won't be spining(Don't do this for long as it damages end of crank).
No alt/pwr steer/water pump/ect.,from memery lights on dash came on to.
I tightened by removing fan and tightining while holding fan coupling with screw driver or bar and reling on the belt to hold the balancer.
Made this up to hold both the balancer and fan coupling when refitting.(Yet to be used)
PICT1274.jpgPICT1279.jpgPICT1281.jpgPICT1285.jpg
Made from scrap angle iron @40mm X @1200mm long.
Last hole to hold 1 bolt,2 outhers drilled to suit both the main pully and the viscous coupling mount.
Ground out a section to fit the soket and coupling.
I've bought new shorter bolts to use with this so as not to damage threads on original bolts.
No. 3 pic. shows it the right way up for tightining, angle iron will have to rest agaist L/H gaurd.
If you have the fan off Rob it wouldn't hurt to check the pullies ect.,is the adjuster pully mount located on it's dowel?

As mentioned in PM
Cheers Kyle. PM sent too.
Am I right in saying that this would be a much easier job with the radiator and intercooler out? You could put a pnuematic or Hydraulic torque wrench on the difficult nuts, using a tool similar to those described made out of angle iron or similar, and just take it on/off in seconds.
Mind you, it does take more time etc to take radiator out. In my case, Im pretty much taking the shole front end off and replacing all of those components anyway.
UP's latest write might be of some help.

Thanks UP![]()
Recently stranded in Wilcannia,NSW, with this problem. Very welcoming town (thank you).
Wound up importing replacement from UK which took 6 days door to door!
Recommend making up the locking tool to remove central crankshaft bolt.
Welcome to AULRO.
Is your rig the one that was recued and trailered back to the Geelong area?
I've now shortened the bar as pictured in my previous post.
It now fits in the tool box so it stays in the rig.
When in use I fit a small block off wood or similar on the chassis rail for it to lean on.
