    MAF sensor

    Guys,

I wanted to take a look at my MAF sensor this weekend on my Disco 2 TD5. Can anyone let me know where it is located, i've heard they play around a fair bit when they are filthy, so is there any cleaning advice and is this a simple operation?

    Regards,

    Tim

Cleaning the MAF sensor is a simple job. The sensor sits just after the filter box in short length of tube on the way to the turbo. Unclip one side and loosen the wormdrive clip on the other side unplug the senor and the short length can be taken out. The part of the sensor that gets dirty is inside the tube have a look and it will probably look black instead of silver. To clean it just spray the sensor with electrical contact cleaner. While your at it remove the lid on the filter box take out the filter and clean or replace and clean out any crap in the box. give the sensor inside the filter box a quick squirt with the cleaner as well. If they were dirty you should notice considerable performance difference.

    Regards

I did mine during the week ... just like Nankas outlined above. The two MAF wires looked clean, but I did them anyway (boy, are they fine wires or what!), and the airbox sensor, AND vacumed about 1/4 a cup of beach sand out of the bottom of the airbox ... even though the MAF wires looked clean, it did make a difference to how well the Td5 runs ... go figure!??

I just used some CRC CO Contact Cleaner ... be careful that you use a CO based cleaner ... some use a solvent base that will attack and deform plastic ... got mine from an Electrical wholesaler next door to where I work ... they had both CO & Solvent based sprays.

    Kev..
