    roof pod

thinking of getting roof pod, have been told that will have to get roof racks as well , as i only have the side rails on the d2 and no gutters for them to sit in. so they will have to bolt on the side.

yet i have seen d2 with sports ones sitting on the current side rails.

was looking at the cargo pods , my question is has any one got them and what are the pro and cons?

as i only want temporary roof racks any idea on brands

I will be using them for long trips with the family

On my D2 I have the Rola Sports Bars fitted to my OE roof rails. The luggage pods (Thule, Rola, Rhino) all clamp onto the sports bars. Additional or specials racks are not required.

As u Can see by my id pic we have a Thule pod and it is sat on Thule clamp rails to the Disco bars.In this we carry 4 folding chairs, dogs bed, table.wheel clamp, and clothsline.
Also works a treat as a wind deflector for the van.

think it is 320ltr and attached to original cross bars. according to the manual these bars are good for 50kg max (30kg off road)

Repco has a special on Rola roof pods : 20%-30% off until 6 September.

Also, there was a recent thread re the Repco $99 roof tray sitting nicely between the D2 roof rails.

Why do you say that you have no gutters for them to sit in? All D2s have gutters. Yes you will need to get cross bars. You can fit them with special clamps to the side rails or you can get a set of feet that clamp into the gutters to support the cross bars. I suspect that there would not be a lot of difference in cost between the clamps to your rails or the feet for the gutters. Rhino would seem to me to be the strongest product out there and you can either go for an aero bar or heavy duty. The pods come with U bolts to fit either style of bar.
