well the double carden joint tends to let go. but you've had all the other nasties. (well unless its an auto thats been previously abused.
Four months ago I bought a D2 TD5 to travel up to Karijini national park and enjoy the great WA outdoors in general. It was a great deal at the time, only 160,000 kms with bullbar, winch, aircomp, ACE and towball all mine for $15k.
In the first few months before leaving, the three amigos fault came up and I had to replace ABS modulator. Oil in engine harness meanth that had to be replaced. Also engine mounts needed to be replaced. So far about $5k. Went north on my trip and the engine blew up (oil levels and water all good) 500km out of Tom Price at 6pm. Used sat phone to get tow truck - $1200 into Tom Price, they do not like LandRovers in that part of the world, only Toyota Landcruisers :-). So I had to get the car towed to Perth and looked at.....it needed a new engine and turbo (looks like about $11,000 for recon engine and new turbo, apparently oil pump failed). All up car has now cost around $30k.....maybe not the best deal in the world
I am now wondering weather to keep the car or replace. What else can go wrong with these D2s ?
Thanks for any comments !

If you've benefited from one or more of my posts please remember, your taxes paid for my skill sets, I'm just trying to make sure you get your monies worth.
If you think you're in front on the deal, pay it forwards.
On the bright side there isn't that much more that can go seriously wrong and the engine will now last probably another 150k's.
Something else to consider if you buy another second hand vehicle then how would you really know if that is going to last one day or ten years?
If you sell it now you will more then likely still only get about the same 15k that you originally paid for it. But now it is a vehicle which has just been seriously overhauled and will only end up serving the new buyer very well.
I suspect my words won't make you feel any better but sometimes a different view does assist.
Cheers,
Terry
man thats sad
11K for even a complete engine seems somewhat high. Maybe you need to make more inquiries.
The turbo might not be wrecked as most people seem not to know that its shaft floats on oil and has lots of free play when stopped.

bad luck, but as said, the tendency to bail out just means some other persons gets a good buy. Unfortunately this seems a classic story for LRs owners, and my experience is to grin and bear it and enjoy the future reliability you have just paid for.
Sorry to hear about your drama's. Such a great holiday ruined. That sucks.
Thanks guys, and yes Graeme, the guy did show me the turbo was stuffed by wobbling the shaft, he has already fitted engine (that was the first $5800 for recon plus $1500 labour) and has turbo on order to arrive tomorrow, I might just grab the old one as a spare.
Also good news was holiday was not a write off as I hired a landcruiser for the remainder of the trip. The classic thing in Tom Price is the perception of landrovers vs landcruisers, everyone in the local pub knew my problems as the tow truck driver let them all knowand they were very rude about landrovers

I was quoted $18K for a brand new TD5 when my oil pump bolt let go a few years back. It's a known issue, which LRA refuses to acknowledge.
Anyhooooo, do what I did mate. Hang on to the sucker now. You've invested too much into it to allow some other person to benefit from your misery. I ended up getting a TD5 out of a wrecked defender, cost $6K with 30,000 klms on it. So a '99 Disco, with a '99 body/drivetrain etc but an '03 engine. Hve had all the issues you've mentioned plus .... ignition switches/key fobs/window motors/horn buttons springing off and taking out my eyeI'm keeping it - I revel in my misery every time I start it - but it's the best on and off road ...
