Sounds like you have oil in the injector harness, which goes to the ECU. Sometimes this causes some issues with firing, performance, noise or all of the above. This is a common problem with the TD5 and is easily fixed with a replacement harness for about $240 fitted or around $135 doing it yourself (depending on where you buy) Pull your plug off and use some "contact cleaner" in the mean time. The new harness has apparently been redesigned or modified and should not suffer the same problem.

Thanks for the reply.
These harnesses etc seem to be a problem with other vehicles too.

We had a Jackaroo for a couple of months and got rid of it for something simmiliar, oil getting into one of the harnesses.

Guess I better go and at lest clean up the connection that plugs into the ECM until I get another one.

Just finished cleaning up the plug and the ECM connection.

It was the bootom connection that had the oil in it.

How does it travel along the wires?

As it wasnt a sealed harness or anything, it just looked like a lot of wires.

Guess thats something else to replace if they have redesigned the harness so it doesnt happen anymore.

Hi ozzytourer,

I can suggest that you can purchase a new injector harness from ebay.uk for around seventy bucks. Remove the plastic cap over the big plug, fillit with high temp silicone and replace the cap.Also its worthwhile to remove the white plugs that go inside the injector plugs, slide some 18mm heatshrink over them , you can buy this from a electrical wholesaler/bunnings, and fill them with silicone also. This stops any oil getting into the loom and travel from here to the plug in the head. When you replace the loom also smear some silicone around the hole in the head to stop the oil running through.
This will improve the engine performance ten fold when all the plugs are free of oil.Ive just done mine and the car runs like a new car, more power, smoother gear changes, better economy, and no shudder/surging.

HI, Thanks for that. Just checked on feebay and found the one from the UK, not a bad price, probably about half of what I found earlier from an Aust place.

i had this problem leading to engine missing cylinder bangs.
the car would jump back and forth while driving.
i got it fixed under land rover warranty and they told me it was 1500 for the part plus labour.
thing was many ks after the problem it did it again.
this time they replaced the throttle pot.
