    cdl retro fit

I was in a hurry so got a place in Melbourne to source a replacement diff and fit their after-market actuating kit (a knob on the floor). All up about $2600 (about a year ago). If I wasn't in a hurry, I'd pick up a LT230 diff much cheaper privately - even on ebay they seem to pop up fairly regularly for around the $400 - and I'd lash for a 2a factory lever/actuator set up. Don't bother trying to find the missing internals and rebuild the diff. Just replace the lot.

    cheers

    Hey mate
Good luck with buying a bargain car for what money they are fetching currently.
I love to get a 2a but am just so stocked with my current D1.

Totally agree with all that was said above, there is one thing with colour of car though.
Black and white and all between have very similar heat absorbtion and dispersion qualitie that pretty much makes them even.
Ever thought why black people often occupy the deerts of this world?

Black colours do get warmer quicker but they alo radiate(release) the heat much quicker where as a white car will absorb the heat slower but will release it much slower also.

Fireplaces and ovens are usually always black because you want to release the heat quickly to heat area etc.

Anyhow, a black car in the heat of the day will heat up quicker but also cool much quicker and vice versa.

Go find your dream car and have a ball.

    Still looking!

Thanks for the input- interesting about the colour thing Big Guy- makes sense.

Well, I've missed out on a couple of 2a's, one went just this week for 22K, looked in great nick and had 170ks. These 5 seat coil sprung models seem to be going so quickly here in melbourne at the moment- guess that also means they're a pretty good thing.

So I'll keep looking- the tip about the '02 models was a beauty- didn't think of that. Planning to head off around Oz next Jan so I've still got a bit of time to find one...

    Another thing...

Just thought of another thing- I generally search via the internet at the moment, is this the best option? I use Used Cars - New Cars - Search New & Used Cars For Sale - carsales.com.au, trading post online, drive.com, discountusedcars.com etc. Does anyone have any tips for locating vehicles another way? My eyes are looking like this dut to hours spent on computer!

    Hi guys
does it have to be diesel?
when i bought my D2a i was looking for a diesel but they were about $10k more than i wanted to spend. so did a few calculations with a V8, it worked out that if the TD5 was $10k dearer that i would have to keep it for about 15 years to break even over buying a V8 ,'cause that $10k goes a long way towards fuel for the big fella, (to which i have named Thirston, just because if you give him a boot full of right foot, that's exactly what he gets a thirst on for fuel) he does about 17-18 L/100 around town ,13L/100 on the highway

    Bought it!

    Hi Guys,

Got one! Had one or two wines to celebrate the new purchase... 03MY D2a, Td5, 200k's on clock. Lots of k's I know, but for $18k it worked out as far as I was concerned. Good service history, 2 lady owners, the one I bought it off was as genuine as they get ("upgrading" to new, safer, Volvo as she's expecting), in fact a really nice person and made it a whole lot easier to part with the cash. The car seemed pretty immaculate except for a few minors- loose headlight, slight dent on bonnet etc. Wait until I've finished with it...

The funny thing was, I always said I'd have coils and avoid SLS. It was advertised as a 7 seater, hence I was expecting SLS, but after reading a few threads thought "What the heck- I can fix that" - in fact it was a five seater coil sprung. With ACE. Too good to be true

To be honest, the best thing is it's over- so sick of thinking, searching etc. If something goes wrong from here I'll ask you guys and crack out the spanners.

So, finally, the Zook is laid to rest and I'm a Land Rover man...
