    DISCO 2 WHEEL BEARING HUBS

    Hi There,
Have to replace my rear hubs as they are leaking oil on to the discs, any suggestions how to obtain these at a reasonable price would be appreciated.

There's a sealing O ring between the hub & axle tube - are you sure it's not just this leaking before you go buying new hubs?

I agree, it could just be the seal on housing near the small end of the CV, mine is pouring out oil onto the wheel at the moment, fixing it next week. As far as I'm aware, the hub is a sealed unit that needs to be bought as a unit itself. They are very expensive, as they come with the abs sensor included. If you shop around a bit they are cheaper. Another alternative I have heard of is pressing the bearings out and replacing them, but I think it would be the O-ring coming out of the housing as the wheel hub bearing doesn't actually contain any oil...as far as I'm aware.

Yes agree with Scouse and Hendrik, it will be the seal not the hub, I've just had a front seal replaced on my D2 after it started leaking, the hub was fine.

I have seen leaking hubs before (the seal leaks & then diff oil gets in the hub) but it pays to check the simple (and cheap) parts first.

Yes I think that could have happend to me, hence why my amigoes keep up. Could the oil get to the sensor and cause it to read a faulty sensor?

    Hi Reciprovac,

If you need to replace the hub there is a guy who sells them on EBay $295 for hub and sensor. He has 2 listed currently, they are after market but sourced from the UK. I had one fitted to the front it seems ok but my squealing brakes still set it off.

    Cheers

    D2 Hub replacement

Thanks to all who replied to my query.
I did in fact buy the two hubs on E bay for $295 each.
Previous to this I got an old hub from a wrecker at no cost and pulled it down.
The bearings were fine being Timkens, but the housing has the bearing outer machined in to it,this was worn with ripples esily felt by running a finger around the surface.
So bearing replacement would not work unless the housing bearing face was surface ground.
This could be done but you would have to shim up to allow for the metal removed and to centre the toothed ABS wheel.
What this means is repair is not possible unless you had a complete machine shop and at $295 is a better bet.
As to the O ring seal this leaking would be easily visible but in my case the leak is through the hub onto the discs.
At 180 ,000 km i think replacement is a good idea anyway.
    regards

Sorry but I don't understand how changing the hub would stop it from leaking, there's only one place the hub can leak oil and that's if the O'ring is stuffed or the inner surface of the axle housing is scored or damaged.

Was the leak out through the end were the axle lock nut is
