    Diagnostics in Darwin

I am having a number of issues with our 2001 ESTD5 Discovery and am getting frustrated having to wait a week or more to get the dealer to run diagnostics for me. Anyone in Darwin have Nanocom etc that may be able to assist - happy to travel and pay for your time.

    Cheers,

    Peter

Yes I have Rovacom for the D2 Td5.

    ...but...

I live in Gove, so sorry can't help.

What is the problem and the reason for running the diagnostics?

Problem is the flashing greens, sport/gear. Was intermitent and cleared by locking. Then noticed that two wires to the inhibitor switch had not been cable tied up and have been touching the bracket. Re-insulated and cable tied the loom up was Ok half way to Katherine - but the vehicle is now just locked in limp mode. Had an enjoyable drive in limp mode from Katherine to Darwin. Today replaced the inhibitor switch - same problem. Now starting to get expensive and have ordered a new tx controller.

I thought I may be able to pinpoint the issue with a rovacom - rather that fault find by testing and replacing componets.

    Cheers,

    Peter

Unfortunately the Auto box ECU is the only D2 Td5 module I never got the licence for. That said check out BOSCH AUTO BOX GS8.87.0 (SM030) as this has a limited amount of data regarding the tranmission's ECU.

The other thing to consider is the external linkage on the transmission, corrosion on this can also give it problems and send it into limp mode. It's also possible you have other internal issues.

THe M+S flashing should self clear unless its a permanent fault logged. One thing that can trigger them is a sudden change in torque from rechipping the vehicle. If you've had this done recently it may mean that you've got an issue with the vehicle map in the ECM.

    Couple of other thoughts:
It's not overheating the auto box is it?
Have you checked the state of the transmission cooler? (sits below the intercooler)
When was the last filter change on it?

    Hi Lewy
Thanks for the offer. Spend two days under the car and got it sorted - faulty (didnt locate the specific wire/s) loom that goes to the inhibitor switch. Replaced the loom and no more problems.
    Thanks for the contact.

    Cheers,

    Peter
