    DISCO BUYING HELP

Looking at buying a 2001 DiscoII with 170000Ks on the clock.

Its a standard example with no accessaries looks like it has been a city car.

Any big things to be looking for or any big services due in the near future on such a car?

All feed back would be great.

    Cheers

What model ES, SE, SE7 ?

Any standard extras such as ACE, SLS, 7 seats, sunroof ?

    Must have a FSH
Check the SLS pumps up in 30 secs or less (do a search here for SLS or Airbags)
Check water coolant level if its low it could be on its way for head gaskets replacement.
Not a bad idea to get a mechanical inspection first, a good $200-$300 will be well spent.

With any Landy purchase I suggest a full inspection be done by a good independent Landy workshop. But that begs the question of how do you pick a good one????? I have no idea.

Its a TD5, has self leveling suspension and an ARB bull bar. Not sure about the other bits. Still in the learning phase...

Is the SLS a good or bad option? pros and cons?

Is there anything that I would be stupid to buy one without (option wise)??

    Thanks for all your help.

What colour is the coolant ? eg, is it pink ? oat.
Is there any service history ? you may be able to find this out from the local LR dealer off there computer. Tell them how smart they are.
When you decide to go for a test drive, don't give them time to "warm" it up first.

    Thanks Zute!

Its a one owner car with service history.

I am too far away so cant go and inspect it myself. will have to get someone else to do it.. still looking into that one.

Why would you just jump in and go for it cold? what are you looking for there?

Interesting Zute should ask what colour the coolant is ...it is green ...could still be OAT tho...??

SLS is a popular debating topic around here ..... but i will say this.... if the airbags and compressor haven't been replaced yet they will both be needing to be done soon, budget in $1k for this.

For me a full service history by a reputable Land Rover mechanic is probably the key in buying 2nd hand.

As for options, CDL (Centre Diff Lock) is one that you might want to consider... do a search for "CDL" lots of info on this one in the forums

FWIW. From the picture link Outback 85 posted, the coolant expansion tank looks like it has green coolant! ... sure don't look red to me !

Yeah yeah, I know, OAT coolant can be green to ... I've never seen/found anything but RED ... YMMV

... I have been accused of being colour blind too!

Otherwise, looks clean & tidy (they all do in photo's).

Like Zute said ... read everything TWICE and BE SUSPICIOUS.
