    Top Radiator Hose Bleed Screw

    HI,
I was just out checking oil/water etc and noticed a bit of a leak around the Bleed Screw on the top radiator hose.

Thought I would tighten it a bit and as soon as I touched it the top fell off.

So is there a way of just replacing the bleed screw or do I have to get a new hose?

Not sure if I can replace the bleed screw as the threaded part is still in there.

    cheers
    Craig

I had the same sort of experience a couple of years ago and I had to replace the entire hose.....was advised there was no option.

    Cheers

You should be able to get a bolt that fits the bleed point. If the hose fitting is also plastic - and I think it is - it would be better replacing both though as it may be brittle too.

Begs the question: What's the bottom drain bolt like?

    HI,
I did a flush about a week ago and the bottom bolt was ok, no leaks or anything, and I thought the Bleed screw was okay as well when I finished bleeding it, but I guess it wasnt.

Now I just need to find some one to post me out a new hose as we are about 50kms from the nearest place that might be able to get one.

    cheers

Try British Off Road in Qld, they are pretty good at getting stuff in the post. Got an alternator to a friend in 3 days all the way up here and they don't overcharge for freight.

You can buy brass bleed screw replacements I think LRAutomotive website. Or fit an engine saver coolant alarm the sensor assy replaces the top bleed screw..

I broke the bleed screw on a new hose. Lucky I still had the old one.

If the bleed screw has broken, I wouldn't trust the hose either.

Last week I walked out of my wife's office to find my D2 hemorrhaging red cooland all over the car park. A quick inspection found a broken bleed screw on the top hose. No worries, found a bolt with the right thread and went to screw it in ... but threads inside hose had disappeared too, so I had to do a quick hose replacement in the carpark.

Incidentally, the new (genuine) top hose hose is of a different design (I'm guessing they've had quite a few failures). The bleed screw is of a different type altogether, and is located at the hose T piece, rather than in the hose itself.

    HI,
I ordered a new hose and also as they had replacement Brass bleed screws ordered one of them too. Hopefully they can chuck it in a Express Post bag or something.

    Not cheap hoses either

Got them here: Land Rover parts - DISCOVERY 2

    Anyone deal with them before?

    Thanks for all the replies.

    cheers
