Mitsubishi Recovery Vehicle ... only a 4cyl car, but since this is becoming a recurring job
My son's GSR Galant broke down again, so being at the Central Coast, a flat tow was out of the question ... hire a 15x6 car carrier & a 300km round trip to go fetch & return.
That's approaching 2T on the back ... biggest load I've ever towed. Did it with ease. Std D2a Td5 Auto. Yeah, some extra ponies would have helped, but it's certainly not lacking in standard build to do this sort of duty. I'm very happy with how it went.
12.5L/100KM pulling 2T (8km/l or 22.5mpg) at 90-100km/hr on highway. Shift back to 3rd and allow it to lockup before the hills and it just pulls up & over the top ... what a gutsy little engine!
It didn't happen w/o pic's ... so here ya go.
Nothing like a midnight phone call
Or in my case 10mins after I go to bed
It's always suprising what the TD5's will do, and ya still had 1.5 ton up your sleave
Cheers.
