Steel rulers presumably...? I use a couple of aluminium flat bars that came out of a backpack that died a death many moons ago - I knew they'd come in handy eventually!

By drilling new holes you lift the carrier 20mm wthout having to do another mod for the wiper. The wheel also stays closer to the hinges. You will need to flatten about 10mm of the lip of the carrier to accommodate the bolt.
Seriously easy job to do I know cos I was able to do it.

What I didnt mention was that by drilling all new holes as opposed to just two you dont have to flip the carrier or mess with the wiper arm. I tried it both ways and found just lifting the carrier by drilling new holes gave me better vision out the rear window as well.
