    Sport & Manual lamp problem

    hello,
currently have a problem on my 2001 disco 2 td5 auto @ 150k km's with both sport and manual mode lamps flashing along with the 'D' letter on the gear indicator (and flashing leds beside the gear shift lever) ... car will not start at all !!!

I have checked the battery (which is not very old) and it checks out ok. Also no dimming of any lights or equipment on turning key.

Vehicle has not been anywhere unusual and weather conditions were fine and dry at the time.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Under the battery cover, you will see where the battery earth wire has a large lug onto the body as it comes out from nder the cover and goes off down to the engine and chassis. this is the main body earth and will cause similar symptoms if loose or corroded. Also, try disconnecting battery neg for a ew minutes, reconnecting and locking/ unlocking vehicle with key fob.

I suspect however it may have more to do with the neutral safety/ trans shifter pos switch on the side of the trans, but try these few things first.

You mentioned that the LEDs either side of the 'D' are flashing, this may sound silly but make sure the gear shift is in 'P' when you try to start the engine.

As Justin said, hopefully not your inhibitor switch - but if it is... mine eventually failed to the point of having no gears indicated in the LCD.

If you are stuck trying to get the car mobile, select Neutral to start the vehicle. This worked for me until I could change the switch. Remember that in this case the box will probably be in 'limp mode' & you will likely only have 3rd gear - not much fun - but you will be able to move the car.
    Good luck
