Got the general Grabber AT2's on mine, and they are no more noisy than the michelin road tyres that were on when I bought it, would HIGHLY recommend those, been great in / on all surfaces so far.
hey all
i have a disco 2 V8 with the 5 spoke 18s on it which have the 255 55 on it. ive needed new tyres for a while and wanted to know some opinions of different styes and brands but found it hard to find good info. so after visiting some dealers and what i find onsite i got a list of options
pirelli ATR for $415 each
goodyear HP for $400
General at for $340
cooper zeons for $320
general Hp for $210
hankooks for $210
didnt get a price for kuhmos but would guess around $350. so from that hankooks where the most respectable cheapy. was told generals and coopers where noisy and didnt last long. which left the good year and the pirelli which i have only head good things except the price.
im steering for the pirrelis but would like some feed back soon as im ordering tomorrow. or even other options
cheers in advance

I'm very happy with my Pirelli scorpion ATRs. Continental do a cross contact AT in an 18 as well.
cheer guys
ended up getting pirelli ATR at a sweet price to good to refuse. they get fitted on wednesday.
I am faced with the same dilemma of tyre choice (255 55 18) at the moment. The choices that I have explored thus far are between $300-$400 (excluded Pirelli and Michelin as my pockets are not that deep!):
- Coopers
- Goodyear HP
- Marangoni
- Wranglers
I take the Disco on fire trails and dirt tracks. As I am not that serious in off-roading, I wouldn’t justify all terrains (too aggressive I believe for on-road, but I am open to suggestions). I current have Michelin’s and they’ve lasted for over 80,000kms.
Any recommendations on a good affordable tyre that would suit my purpose?
Thanks in advance

I recently got quoted (Melbourne)
General Grabber UHP $355
Yoko Advan $310
Kumho KL51 $310
Hankook $310
Haven't decided which way to go, but will be either Generals or Yokohamas

Affordable is relative....
Cheap often dont last as long... Expensive tend to go further (eg factory)...
Yokohama are soft and wear like mad, usually 45-50k and theyre dead..
Michelin go forever, often getting over 80k
But I know I wouldnt run Kuhmo nor Yokohama![]()
Much appreciated to all for their advice.
I'll continue to shop around.

I brought the D2 with Wranglers on it, they are quite but the car wanders all over the place on a bumpy road at medium speeds. I have had a couple of mechanics check the shocks, ACE, etc and they both said it drives well for a Disco on 18" wheels.
Other people I have spoken with say the experienced similar traits with Wranglers on 18's.
I have been looking for a decent set of 16" wheels for some time and will fit All Terrains when I get them.
My D1 with 33" All Terrains handles very nicely on the road which might be surprising to some and isn't that loud and the All Terrains do both jobs well, being street and off road, the Wranglers don't.
I wouldn't be buying All Terrains though if I wasn't ocassionally going to do some off road driving.
cheers,
Terry
Take a look at Nexen HP's, they do a 255 55 r18. Mine have done 20k & are down to about half tread & were $240 fitted. Great on the beach & dirt roads, havent had a puncture yet. Also compliment ACE when it comes to cornering. Plus they have less noise then pirelli or good years.
