    Power Steering Pump

    Gday All,

Seem to have developed a leak on the P/S pump, went to buy some degreaser to clean it but Darwin has had no power since 4am so cant get anything from the shops..(power just came on 12.00) so will head out and get some..

Can the pump be overhauled? or are they a throw away job, due to cost,s sealed parts etc

Will look at the Rave CD but any help or idea,s from people this has happened to would be great..

    Thanks and Cheers Ean

    Hi Ean,
My 2000 has been leaking since I bought it 6 months ago. Road Worthy Mechanic told me to top up with a bit of Vegetable oil which helps to expand the seals, worked a little bit but improved when I used the commercial Power Steering Fluid and Sealer.

Still leaks but not as much.

I know its not want you want to hear Ean,,,
Both my Disco's pumps have leaked,,( funny that!!)
I put 11 years of seal fixerupper in the first one,, never stopped the leak,,
but it never squealed or blewup either,,

so this ones getting the same treatment,,

the side benefit is it rust-proofs the underside VERY well!!

    Gday Pedro,

Thanks for that, I had a few different leaks , so degreased the engine and hooked up the camper trailer and took a spin down to adelaide river.200ks round trip.

Bugger me when I got back there was only a bees dick of oil around the pump, so maybe it had been leaking longer than I thought.. Anyway am happy to add abit of fluid every now and then, but will keep an eye on it..

    Cheers Ean

Try some of this, well worth a shot!!!...........stopped the leak on my steering box by the drop arm. Guaranteed to work or your money back, so far so good for me, even made the steering feel "smoother" and quieter to.
