    Cool Stalling issues Discovery 2

    Hi,

Have a series 2 2000 Discovery with 84000kms. Car currently stalls whilst idling at lights or comming to a complete stop, other than this car runs very well. Reading comments on the site it would appear that i need to adjust the base idle. Can someone please advise what the step by step procedure is for this.

    Thanks in advance Rex

threads moved and merged. The Series 2 and 2A area is not for Discovery questions. That area is for vehicles built between the late Fifties and the late Sixties.

    Hi & welcome

Before you go off trying to change base idles, ect .... I would put a bit of time into cleaning out the internals of the manifold

Clean the MAF with some "Circuit Board" cleaner
Clean the gunk buildup around the butterfly (throttle)
Clean the gunk buildup around the Idle Stepper motor

Also look for cracked vacuum hoses ..... + check the main large intake hose to the manifold, is in good condition with no cracks allowing air to vacuum through

See how that goes before you start touching electronics ....

There is no real base idle adjustment on a Thor with Motronic.

Ther IAC is continuously controlled by the ECU and is quite powerful.

There is a tiny Allen screw under the front of the throttle body but this is to set the throttle plate clearance rather than base idle like a 14CUX, which has an idle bypass passage in the throttle body.

How do I know? I have a Thor on my 14 CUX and it is a bitc h to set the (necessary on 14CUX) base idle as each tiny movement changes the idle so much.
I would second giving her a good clean and maybe new leads, check coils, plugs.

Tap into the intake each side of the IAC and fit a small ball valve across?
