I have used 15w/40 in the td5 disco for the last 100,000ks, but dont think the car has been anywhere near those sub 20 degree temps..

Will prob go to 5w/40 when I do finally expierience a winter..or when we do the Canning trip this june/july..

    Cheers Ean

I did an oil change at the weekend, and had a lot of trouble finding Diesel specific oil in anything other than 15w-40. Ended up using Penrite 5W-40, but was rather pricy.

I was wondering what diesel oil people use in a 5W-, and more specifically where they get it. Had very little luck at Supercheap or Repco and ended up getting it from Autobarn.

    Cheers

    Mobile 1 5w-50
Costs though, $72 for 5L now
Meets all the requirements of the TD5.
Change oil and both filters every 10,000km

    Talking Engine oil

Always used penrite hpr5, talking to l'rover mechanic--went to purchase oil--told me [after 130k] ok to use penrite 15/50[15weight] all seems ok.That oil leak, previous post--was ,it seems ,the cam plug[cutout] at the front of the engine. It was actually loose in its' position--explination----vibration flattening the o-ring!!!

Unless you're hammering this vehicle, you're blowing your $$$ changing so often...

Old school thinking - No point using high end synthetic if you throw it away too early

TD5 with a good quality SemiSynth (eg HPR Diesel 5) only needs 15k service intervals under normal/heavy use... Even then a healthy engine will show a good oil test.

Good point Mike, but we get a lot of these vehicles down here lucky to do 10K a year
