Steel offset wheels: How much can I get away without cutting the guards?

    Hi All
I am about to order some steel wheels for my D2, most probably Dynamics. I would like to go with a little more offset than standard, but would like to know if anyone runs offset steels with 265/75 tyres and how much offset. I am not keen to cut the guards just yet, so the tyres would not have to rub at all. On standard alloy wheels, it only rubs on full lock when traversing uneven ground, but nothing on even ground. Obviously the offset wheels would solve this problem but I don't want the tyres rubbing on the guards for obvious reasons.
Would like to hear everyone's experiences.
    Thanks in advance

std offset is +57 i reckon you could go a +30 which is 27mm 54 mm whole wheel track wider which should not have to much rubbing if any

i have gone -6 offset which gives me approx 126 mm whole offset wheel track with cut gaurds tho and 35"s
Mark (Baffel) is running a -27 offset with 35"s

to be honest if you are thinking about going wider and cutting just do it now save you a heap of cash and the wider wheel track is always better for stability if you going up in height

    cheers kelvin

Thanks for that Kelvin. I'm not too keen to cut the guards as I probably won't go larger than 33's on my D2. If is ever was to go to 35's it won't be on my d2. I think I will go with the first figure you mentioned and see how I go.

    Hendrick,

Old thread, but going through the offset dilema myself. No problems with the -30mm dynamics on 32 in tyres?

    Hamish,

I ran the same rims, they are +30 dynamics but with 245/75R16 and they where no where near rubbing on mine, I would not think a 265 would cause issues either but someone else may have a definite answer for you.

I have pushed my wheels out 30mm further (60mm wider wheel track now). With 32" tyres and a 2" lift I had issues hitting the guards. I have now lifted another 2" (4" total) and have no issue. I intend to fit larger tyres in the future and cut the guards (Les Richmond Automotive White Tiger Stage 2 flare kit).
