I was told this was a recall and rectified when I bought my 2005 Defender td5. I still had it checked out though.
The recall should identify the vin numbers.
Was your engine new or reco?
hey Guys ,
bought a D2 a couple of weeks ago and it has a new engine fitted in 2006 /112,000 km ,due to the oil pump bolt failure .
the engine has only done 20,000km since it was installed and the car has done 130,000km now .
I have the receipts for the new engine ($10,000 worth)so i rang the people that fitted it (Qld dealer )to ask if they know if the engine had loctite on the bolt ,they told me that they didn,t know as it was a factory engine ,sump and head already on it .
so i rang Landrover Aus and they didn,t know either (got some switchboard girl and a girl from Landrover assist .)
Does anyone know if Landrover knew about this problem and if they rectified it after ,say 2005.
I may have to take the sump off and check ,but that may set off oil leaks that i don,t have yet

Dad has 1 of the last D2a model and he got his checked at 100,000 and it was held in by about 3 threads..My advice...oil leaks you can fix, a new engine is alot harder and more expensive..
Put afew beer in the fridge , check the bolt,Log onto Discovery2.co.uk, and there is a step by step guide to the job, and enjoy the beers and the piece of mind..
Cheers Ean
Land Rover are well aware of it...here and in the UK and other parts of the world...just do it for your own peace of mind.
