    Thanks very much all.

Cockie - yep I wouldnt mind betting that the D2 cable was a hell of a lot cheaper to make than the D1 linkage...

As I say my D1 shifter is quiet as a mouse, but then again its not had HEAPS of use so maybee that is a factor.

I am going to go the D1 cause I know a place that have the parts - new D1 shifter and a D1 output housing with internals for $400 or so and that will do me I reckon.

    Cheers again

Sorry meant to say "gearing" not "bearings" (which was prior change). Having said that the LT230Q may also have different bearings on account of the case being thicker I believe? If so they then may be "smaller" bearings (potentially weaker/wear quicker/noisier??), however I don't know.

Disco 1 output housing isn't suitable because it does not have a hi-lo switch, only difflock switch, you 'll have to find a d2(early - with one difflock switch) or def td5 output housing.
Slabs ecu needs to know if you 're on hi or low range for ACE,HDC,ETC.
On mechanical side of view, all the housings are compatible BUT you need a switch - you can wire one externaly but when changing to low range you MUST remember to flick the switch

Thanks Fatman - can you use the high low switch from my current D2 housing - ie drill a hole and stick it in the D1 housing or do they share a common switch for both high low and diff lock?

    Cheers

    Switch?
None of the housings I took off had a switch and neither did the ones I put on.

Where does the H/L switch sit?

Isnt there a switch inside the output housing - I think there might be one for high range and one for cdl...Mate did yours that you took off and put on have 2 x 2 or 2x3 prongs sticking out for the electrical connection blocks?

    Cheers

from Aschcroft, the hi-lo switch goes where the zip tie is.
If u can't find the right housing, you can modify an old one,but add the cost of the conversion and do your own math.

Fatman - you are a gentleman...thanks very much. That is very helpful.

I think to keep the costs all under control (cause the Ashcroft kit is very expensive and it is very hard to find an output housing by itself for a td5 Extreme or D2a) I will just install a switch on the dash using my existing how low wiring loom - that might be interesting because it might be nice to turn it on and off at times and experiment a little...

    Cheers

Gday all. I am going to try and get this sorted next week. The D1 housing that I will use will have a Centre Diff Lock/Unlock switch. On my current D2 (without CDL internals) there is the high/low switch on a seperate part of the output housing but of course no Diff/Unlock switch. So...i need both switches.

I have just looked up RAVE and as said above the High/Low switch informs the SLABS and other computers that the vehicle is in low range so as to enable Hill Descent Control to be used, remap throttle etc. I reckon it also makes the traction control more aggresive too but that isnt said in RAVE. So I can either stick my high/low switch in the D1 output housing or I can have a dash switch to do the same thing going back to the loom near the output housing...no big problem. It says as follows:

Differential lock warning lamp - Vehicles up to 03 model year – if fitted
The differential lock warning lamp is located in the instrument pack and provides a warning to the driver when the
ignition is switched on that the differential lock is engaged. The warning lamp illuminates in a Red colour.
With the lock engaged, the traction control and electronic brake distribution warning lamps will also be illuminated.
Disengagement of the differential lock should be carried out with the ignition switched off. The warning lamps must
be extinguished when the ignition is switched on again.

SO - my question is can I just use the D1 CDL switch that will be in the D1 output housing the run connect it to the wires that should be there near the transfer case to illuminate a either the original light on the dash directly or if that is a no go due to prined circuits etc behind the fascia just to a fresh light? Also is the guff they talk about above just the usual stuff about the fact that ETC will be disengaged if you stall it or turn it off whilst diff locked? Am I right in saying if you select CDL whilst in low range with engine running you get CDL AND ETC?

    Cheers and thanks very much.
