Gday All
I have finally fitted the CVs after a bit off mucking around. The local CV joint supplied me with the shaft clips that didn't come with the CVs & shafts (in error). He was also keen to fit some better boots but they turned out to be too thick couldn't fit through the hole in the steering knuckle. So had to take them off and fit the ones supplied. That meant pressing off the Oil seal flange again.
My dilemma is that the interference fit is now loose and I attempted to fit using Loctite Shaft Fit 609 hoping it would work failed !!
Now I have a oil leak and am desperately seeking a flange as they do not seem to be available as a part. Only supplied with the axle. Going on. Holidays on Tuesday and running out of time can anyone help ??
Cheers Wayne

Hey
Just to get this straight, the "flange" on is not making full contact with the oil seal, due to the fitting of the new cv's? If this is the case, did you fit the oil seal first, then fit the axle in?
The seal is meant to sit in its seat, which is a tight fit, you will need some sort of insersion tool. I made one by using a piece pipe modified to suit the diameter of the seal. When you insert it, make sure the tool pushes on the outer, stronger side of the seal. It is quite easy to damage the inside and ruin the whole seal...happend to me hence $50 later...so made a tool instead of using a socket extention.
Hope that helps

The seal has been inserted correctly I too made a specific tool. The problem is the "flange" that is what I am calling it as I don't know the correct name. Is not holding its position on the axle so it is not running on the seal surface as it should making it oil tight.
The reason it has lost its interference fit
is because it has been on and off a couple of times and the last time it was removed the CV guy used crude methods not a press.
But I will be dismantleing it again tommorrow to be sure and I will check the seal anyway.
What I believe I need is another "flange"
Bruce at DPL has one from a range rover. Hope they are the same find out tommorrow !
Cheers Wayne.
Finally
Took the D2 to DPL today and Bruce had a spare axle flange from a Range Rover that fitted my axle but was a bit too wide so had to be trimmed down on the lathe.
All good , drove about 70ks after that and no sign off oil leaking. Looks like the Holiday is back on !!
SHMBO has barred me from going 4wheeling again as she says that I keep breaking stuff. She dosent see my point that it has to break before it can be improved

I had a clicking in my front end that turned out to be a broken engine mount causing the cat cover to flex! I thought it was CV's and had them out...and lucky I did cause my passenger side half shaft end in particular was worn on the splines - they were all pushed slightly over. Driver's side was not too bad. I kept them as spares and stuck in original rover again...silly now that I see these posts for about the same dollars you can source HD ones. Anyway I was very fond in the early days of fast take offs from lights using the V8 Manual...now I am not and I have just had fitted up the output housing from a D1 and cable for CDL...no my CV's should be lasting a whole heap longer from now on running only 31's and driving it more gently.
Cheers
