    nanocom engine temp. reading

    Hello All
    I think I know the answer but I'll ask anyway. Using the nanocom evo to display engine temp. is the reading off the coolant as per the dash reading or the engine block. I'm guessing its the coolant unless the ecu gets some other input so its not a substitute for a TM2 or similiar monitor.

    I can't give you the definitive answer however the documentation for the Puma engine and the Td5 (attached) indicates that it is the coolant temperature not the block.

    Since any Diagnostic tool which can read a given data value from an ECU is going to be reading the same data value from the ECU, which the ECU ultimately derives from the same input source, you can sometimes obtain more information aboout the input source the ECU is using by looking at the help files of another System such as our own.

    Our own Puma stuff is pretty limited information wise, but our TD5 help is really very detailed and contains this about the Coolant Temperature input the TD5 ECU uses.

    Coolant temperature (°C): This shows the coolant temperature as measured by the TD5 ECU. This sensor (T121) is connected to the ECU by two wires, a pink / black wire on pin 18 of C0158 which goes to pin 1 of C0169 on the sensor itself and a pink / green wire on pin 7 of C0158 which goes to pin 2 of C0169 on the sensor. If the sensor fails, a default value of warm is displayed on the temperature gauge. Sensor faults may cause several symptoms including poor starting, fast idle speed, poor fuel consumption and cooling fans running continuously. A typical value with a fully warm engine is 88°C.
