    ScanGuage - D3/RRS TDV6

    Has anyone used a ScanGuage with a D3/RRS 2.7TDV6???

No looking to use one for fault finding but if anyone has experience in this please tell how good it is - mainly looking tom use some of the engine monitoring/fuel computer aspects that the car systems do not cover.

    Thanks

    I have one on my TDV6 'S'.
Use it as trip computer mainly, plus for additional parameters when trying to understand things (this diesel stuff is new to me).

Mounted on velcro strip on top of the steering column.

Trip computer stuff appears to be reasonably accurate (once calibrated) and there is about 3x as many parameters as you would generally want to look at. These days I generally leave it displaying something like:
    Distance to empty.
    Average fuel consumption (current tank).
Current fuel consumption (prompting my right foot).
    Manifold pressure.

Depending on what I am doing I might alternate some temperatures (inlet air, water) or load (% torque).

I haven't looked too much into the programming side of the configuration, although I have got displaying 'kW' and 'boost' as well as mapping some trip parameters accross to the guage display.

I find it useful given I have the poverty pack model D3.

ScangaugeII does not talk to a TD5 D2, but I used to run one on an '04 Forester and loved it.

I used it primarily for instantaneous fuel economy, tank economy and distance remaining on the tank and water temperature.

Mine was also velcro'd to the top of the steering column and in that position it looked almost factory fitted.

If the D2 would talk to it, I would have one in a heartbeat.

Now if only the Nanocom Evo could be tweaked to display fuel burn I would be a very happy camper

You are using it in a similar fashion to what I have planned though my car computer has most of the functions but not current fuel usage - also the average fuel consumption display is about 10% optimistic as is distance to empty. Some of the basic fault diagnostics on the Scanguage may of use as well.

Where is the OBDII socket on your D3?

I might have to go to Wooders when I am up Hornsby way next and see what they have to offer.

    Cheers

    ScanGuage II diesel setting

    SuperMono

I see you have been using the scanguage.

I have a D4 2.7ltr MY11, and have just bought a scanguage II. However I am a bit unsure about the choice between diesela and dieselb setting.

Can you please advise which choice you made, as when I attempted the test, the result was unclear to me.

    Thanks.

I remember having to decide, but can't recall the whys and result.
Will have a look when I next open the car door (maybe Saturday).
Something was in the Scanguage manual/setup guide that helped though.

I just followed the instructions in the handbook - is quite clear.

It says most vehicles use Diesel a but if you are unsure see page 13 of the handbook.

    Test procedure.
    1. Set engine size to match the size of the engine
    2. Set fuel type to Diesel a
    3. run engine until at operating temp
    4. park vehicle and put into park or neutral
    5. with engine idling select gauge on the Home Screen - set one gauge to RPM and another to gph (or lph doesen't matter) - you can display up to 4 gauges at one time.
    6. Take note of gph value
    7. Raise the engine from idle to 1500 rpm - if the gph raises then it is Diesel a
    8. If it decreased or stayed the same you have diesel b (need to set diesel b in the Scan gauge)

If I recall the setting is Diesel a - I cannot check my scanguage as it got fried in a lightning strike next to the car just before Christmas.

I've just bought MY12 SDV6 SE and am considering a ScanGauge. A query.. is it more accurate in the L/100km readout than the car trip computer or will it give identical readouts due to reading from the same electronic pathways?

Scangauge uses the same inputs but you tell it how much fuel you have put in the tank and you must fill each time - you cannot indicate a partial fill.

In my experience, once setup - the Scan gauge has a more accurate l/100km than the car system but then the car system under reads by 10% -12% anyway. But the system must set up correctly and you must fill the car to the same level everytime. Newer models maybe better - not sure.

The real advantage of the scangauge is its other functions and ability to display current fuel usage as well as average usage.
