    Updating nanocom GRRRR!

Does anyone have a clear step by step listing for how to update evo?

I thought I was a basic but reasonable understander of computers and processes, but I am having a very frustrating time with navigating nanocom's site and although I can download the latest zip to my pc (didn't have any luck after I connected my evo and following the instructions got to KERNEL), for NanocomEvoKernelManager.exe I managed to get to the DEVICE ATTACHED page showing on my pc, then when I clicked on RUN UPGRADE got a screen saying I must read the manual - but could not access the manual, and did not want to proceed any further before so doing. GRRRRRRRR!
I know another aulro neighbour is also having problems.
    Cheers
    Gavin

    From the Changes.txt

-Html version of HELP file included in the zip (Unzip it anywhere on your local disk then start index.html)

Note: PLEASE READ THE NEW HELP FILE BEFORE YOU UPGRADE YOUR UNIT!!!
Unzip the "HTML version HELP.zip" file found in the kernel manager folder.

Open the resulting "HTML version HELP" folder, then open index.html.

This will give you access to a blow by blow description of the update process.

I was checking this out yesterday as my new Evo is somewhere between Sydney and Melbourne. I'm hoping I'll get it early next week.

    cheers

Good try! Well I can access/open the introduction file, but not the index file.

Guess its time to hassle nanocom.

Are you upgrading on a Mac or PC , we are a Mac only household, I contacted Nanocom to see if I could upgrade firmware with a Mac , they said they don't know but probably not, I think I'll leave mine alone.

I'm not sure this will be of any help, but anyway....

Update procedure for EVO 2 only. EVO 1 requires a different procedure.

    Software upgrde2.pdf

There is also a hardware update procedure in the help files, but this is mainly for recovering a bricked device.

While it's possible to do most things on Mac, once you get into the world of geeky gadgets access to a Windows environment is essential.

You do this either by using Bootcamp to create a dual boot environment. Bootcamp comes as part of the OSX install.
Apple - Support - Boot Camp

I run XP under VirtualBox on a Mac Book Pro for tasks like this.

    http://www.virtualbox.org/

You can get commercial products that do the same sort of job as VirtualBox with a bit more polish.

    Parallels Desktop 7 for Mac
VMware Fusion: Run Windows on Mac for Desktop Virtualization

Whichever path you take you'll need a copy of a Windows OS. I find XP is a pretty nice compromise between being able to run updaters and apps and keeping a low processor hit. If you dual boot using Bootcamp Windows 7 would be a good choice.

If you have the EVO 2 that is the update procedure. The rest of the help is either for the EVO 1 or only required if you somehow manage to brick your EVO 2, which is unlikely if you follow the upgrade instructions.
