    disco td5 ecu smoked,

Well it pays to sit back and think and look, Had all sorts of prices from dealers and others, from 1700, 1400, but one dealer that has adds on here 675 for a new one, MMMM. It would have cost me 1400 to take the car interstate and have them do the job, that was a S Hand one,
Im getting a Hawkeye and will do the job my self. and a new ECU to boot. and its chipped. well thats the plan..
Found out what made it smoke, a driver" FET" on the board has crashed and taken out the switch mode trany with DC volts, it just burnt the legs and the board..99%.sure....Sent photos to the UK and that was the answer I got back......
Will have a look with the hawkeye for anyother problems when its all hooked up, fingerxed...

Why don't you try and get it repaired?

Have you try to find out WHY the ecu got smoked on the first place? It's very unlikely a FET would simply fry without provocation. You should at least check the wiring connected to the pins the FET was driving. To lose one ECU is unlucky, to lose two.....

From the look of it in this post here, I would say that it would be beyond repairing. A number of tracks on the PCB would be burnt through. Not impossible to repair perhaps, but simpler to get a new'un.

    Bob....
Bob I have a Haweye, and it doesn't have the learn security function.
In other words when I fitted another ECU the BCM would not allow the disco to start as the ECU doesn't know the security coding.

I bought a Nanocom also, the nanocom has a learn security feature, so it forces the ECU to learn the BCU security.

Both units have adaptive reset feature that when fitting certain parts you need to do a reset. I found nanocom could not clear some faults, yet I could clear the same faults with Haweye.

Live data I could get with Hawkeye and not with Nanocom, I got errors about connection and it froze also.
So one machine is not always the answer

Firstly thanks for the replys, Its the only ECU that has burnt in my car."Just One"
And it couldnt be repaired by JC him self it was burnt.
Ive spent a lot of time looking and smelling wires to see if there was any melted plastic. But none came close to what you would see if any current had flowed to burn a item like the ECU has been.
Hi Notwortcomplaining, You dont think I will be able to get the little lady up and running from scratch with a Hawkeye. MMMM. Thats not what the people said that are suplying the new ECU.. Will have to have another talk to them and get the "FACTS" thanks....
The chip that is in the old ECU had been up graded, Ive sent that to them to fit and check ,I just hope its fine..
If anyone has a step by step as to what is required to get the little girl puring again I would love to hear it please..
Its a learing curve, but Ive always did that, jumped in the deep end..
    Thanks people, Bob......

You're not wrong. That is one fried ECM.
I would say the smoke has escaped that one permently.
