    Dongle

Off the web - ordered it from Taiwan and it's bluetooth. Got it within 5 working days from ordering. PM you postal address and I'll send it to you as I now have a Nanocom that I grabbed cheap off the web as well

OffTrack -I didn't have any great expectations from a mobile phone driven application compared to a proper diagnostic tool such as Nanocom etc. It's just such a handy application to have if you are in the middle of the bush and have MIL lights appear

    Well????

The Td5 ECU only supports the following via OBD:

    - Trouble codes
    - Calculated load
    - Engine RPM
    - Vehicle Speed
    - Absolute Throttle sensor position

My reaction when I discovered this (on a D2 Td5) was more like "What a waste of time!!".
You are entitled to your own opinion of course. However read my post in entirety because if you seem to feel the need to cut out lines then post them up - it takes my original words out of context....

I did point out that some Apps are better than others, some dongles are hard to pair to your bluetooth function, some Apps are better/cheaper/readily available etc....Typical of the unlimited choices we have in this world

I stand by my words.......for what I (did) need it for.....the dongle and App worked a treat on my mates car, my own and even worked on my wifes French-made car.

I now have a Nanocom that I bought at a great price off the web - the dongle and iPhone app now have limited use but still raise eyebrows when demonstrated

    Hi Matt,

I think you may have missed my point.

It doesn't matter which app you use, the Td5 only offers a very small amount of information via OBD-II. Apps can only display information that is available from the ECU.

What the Td5 ECU reports by OBD-II in addition to fault codes is:
    - Calculated load
    - Engine RPM
    - Vehicle Speed
    - Absolute Throttle sensor position

If you simply want to read/clear codes on the Td5 you can do so with very simple/cheap apps. On iOS Rev Lite (free) is a good way read/clear fault codes and to check what PID's are actually available before laying out $$$ for Rev or Dashcommand.

The additional features Torque, REV, Dashcommand et al offer - like recording OBD-II data, customisable dashboards, etc, etc, are essentially useless for the Td5.

I'd be very interested to know if you were able to access anything beyond the fault codes and the PID's listed above.

    cheers
    Paul

    Hi,
Can you provide details of the dongle you bought from Taiwan? - I have tried two and both do not work with my TD5?
I am looking to clear the "three amigos" (which rather annoyingly only pop-up after the car is serviced)

You cannot clear the three amigos with an OBD-II reader. Generic OBD_II readers only access the engine ECU.

To clear the amigo's you need a tool designed to access the SLABS ECU: ABS Amigo, Hawkeye, Nanocom, Testbook, or similar.

Thanks for that. Disappointing, but good to know before I bought a third unit (have since looked at your suggestions and am off to buy the ABS Amigo in a tick)
And as for the OBDII sensor, which of the "cheapies" work with my TD5 so I can connect to my iPhone? Like I said, the two I bought which said they would read a TD5, don't. (I have a very happy friend with a Subaru though).

Not sure about the cheapies but I had a Kiwi-Wifi and that worked on a D2 Td5.

TBH by the time you spend $200 on an ABS Amigo, and $150 on a Kiwi-wifi you've spent virtually the same as the purchase price of a Nanocom ($360 at current exchange rates) which offers a massive step up in terms of diagnostic capability over an iPhone app and ABS Amigo.

Oh yes you can and I've proved it with a cheap Chinese made dongle and an iPhone app on both a TD5 (Deliberate 3 Amigos) and a Peugeot (ABS Mil light)

Seeing no-one, anywhere, has reported that accessing the SLABS ECU is possible with OBD-II tools you seem to have achieved a rather unique feat.

Can you explain what the fault code you triggered was and how you cleared it?

Interesting reading about these apps. Looking at the GoPoint website, it would seem to imply (from their screen shots) that you can clear codes (but have to use their BT or wired interface connector).

Has anyone given it a go? I'm wondering if it would be the equivalent of the Faultmate FCR.
